1957年，英国铁路购买了一批柴油电力机车，用于南方地区的运输服务。这些机车在当时被称为“BRCW 3 型”，车辆轴式 Bo-Bo，客货两用，配有 1550 马力的苏尔寿引擎，最大速度可达 85 英里/小时。它们因为配备克罗姆顿帕金森公司生产的电气设备，而被叫做“克罗姆顿列车”。BR 33 型机车是一款永恒的经典，现在加入《模拟火车世界 2》，与你共启一段历史旅程。
1959年，首批 BRCW 3 型机车诞生，并于同年 12 月投入使用。首批 65 辆机车在 1961 年之前完成生产，第二批于 1962 年之前完成，共有 3 个不同版本，共计 98 辆机车。
BRCW 3 型机车一投入正常使用便成为南方地区的主要运输机车。尤其是在率先使用该机车的东南区，BRCW 3 型承担了大部分前往多佛的客运和货运任务。它们在希尔内斯和威尔斯登之间运送钢铁，它们运送水泥，甚至还作为工程列车服役，责任重大。它们还用于西南区。其中一组机车配有 SR 动车组设备，牵引从伦敦滑铁卢站出发，前往索尔兹伯里和韦茅斯的推拉式列车。
33 型机车在整个南方地区的关键运输线路上做出巨大贡献，因此获得人们的青睐。这也是为什么有 29 辆机车被保留下来，其中一些甚至还被批准在主干道上运行，这对有60年服役历史的机车来说实属不易。其中两辆被保留的机车 D6566 （33048）和 D6575 （33057）“海鸥号”目前在西萨默赛特铁路线上运行，仍旧保留着经典的 BR 绿色涂装。
